Read this. It's hilarious whether or not you liked the movie. And since I thought the movie was basically a ridiculous spoof of the book, this is exactly how I felt while watching the movie. Enjoy

So I've never actually had a journal entry before so I decided I wanted to try it out. Not that it really matters, since I think I have a total of 4 watchers. But that's cool.

Let's start with Avatar. I keep telling myself that I'm over it, but I just keep thinking about it! Let's start with my favorite parts:

-Zuko teaching Aang a lesson
"Oh, and he's attacking Aang." (Gotta love Sokka)
-Toph's "I'm going with Zuko! ...What?"
-All the little Zutara moments, from "HE'S(SHE'S) NOT MY BOYFRIEND(GIRLFRIEND)!" to Zuko willing to DIE for her...
-Bumi's "WHERE'S MOMO?!"
-FINALLY figuring out what the White Lotus was.

(Now a little more serious)

-Toph "seeing" the fire (it gave me goosebumps).
-Sokka being Toph's "big brother" ...the way he held her hand as they ran, or when he threw himself over her when there was falling debris.
-Toph holding on for dear life and crying.
-Zuko and Iroh's reunion (a tear ALMOST escaped!)
-Poor Azula going crazy.
-Zuko's cool-headedness through the entire battle with Azula.
-Zuko jumping in front of lightning and BARELY redirecting it!

I think I could just go on and on.

Writing this up, you would think I enjoyed the finale more than I did. But really I was slightly disappointed. Yes, I am a Zutarian, but the shipping wasn't the only reason I watched the show.

Notice how none of my favorite parts had to do with Aang? Oh, maybe because he was on the back of some GIANT LION TURTLE THROUGH HALF THE FINALE.

GAH. I was not expecting THAT. SIXTY episodes of MASTER THE FOUR ELEMENTS. STOP THE FIRELORD BEFORE SOZIN'S COMET. MUST MASTER FOUR ELEMENTS. And then ONE episode of some LION TURTLE? I mean, it's not like I was expecting the cliche ending of Aang mastering all four elements and then killing the Firelord, but I was expecting...I don't know, SOMETHING along those lines. And answer me this: did Aang ever REALLY master the Avatar State? A rock to the back? Really? Why didn't he just have Zuko punch him in the back? Since apparently that's the Avatar On/Off switch. What was the point in the Guru/unlocking Chakras and all this good stuff? The ending just felt so.. rushed and random and forced to me. I don't know. I still really liked it but I felt like there could have been more.

These are my thoughts on Ursa. Sorry Bryke, but a tiny little "Where is my mother" didn't exactly do it for me at first. But then I thought... would it have worked if they HAD put a reunion in? I don't think it would have. Would we have felt the same emotion as we watched Ursa and Zuko reunite as we did with IROH and Zuko? I don't think so. I love Ursa and all, but we didn't get so attached to her. I actually like the way they brought Ursa back into the story. If they HAD actually shown her, I would have wanted the scene to be Zuko walking in and saying, "Mom?" and then END SCENE. Think about it guys. I think you might be able to see where I'm coming from and be able to accept the Ursa thing too. I know I'm not explaining myself correctly, all I know is that a reunion scene with Ursa and Zuko might have been weird.

About Zutara. I'm not going to sit here and say that it "should" have happened, because as a writer I would hate for people to actually tell me I was wrong. BUT I will say that it COULD have happened. It was definitely possible. I felt like most of the signs were there. The evidence wasn't fake or fan-made. I was on the fence until the very end, because I truly felt like it could have easily been Kataang or Zutara. Don't miss my meaning though; I wasn't on the fence because either relationship made sense. I was on the fence because I had fears that Kataang would happen because it's a kid's show and Mike and Brian would just, you know, go with the "obvious" ship.

Honestly, though...part of the reason I ship Zutara is because Kataang is downright awkward for me. Not only is he a 12-year-old bald monk who fell for the first girl he ever SAW, but Katara was like a mother to him the entire show. She took care of him, made him feel better when he was down, gave him motivation...you know, all that stuff my mommy did for me. But, you know. I really felt like the end would have been perfectly fine if Zutara happened, Mai followed Ty Lee's lead and joined the Kyoshi Warriors, and then there was some kind of foreshadowing for Aang's "bigger purpose." Maybe the Kataangers would have been satisfied knowing that Aang had a HUGE destiny that made his love for Katara seem small. I don't know. Like I said, the writers knew what they were doing, so I'm not going to say they were wrong. Kataang happened, and I guess it almost kinda maybe if-you-twist-it-slightly worked. I actually forced myself to watch the Maiko ending until I liked it (it took about a zillion times) and I think I've come to grips with it. Ah, heck. Maiko's a little cute. I actually really liked Mai at first, until I realized she'd be in the way of Zutara. What I liked about the ending was how when they kiss Zuko's shoulders come up. I don't know why but I thought that was cute . I also came to grips with it when I saw Mai and Katara next to each other at the end. They are friends now, and that kind of makes me happy.

THAT BEING SAID I really just don't like Maiko. Yes, I've forced myself to think positively about it, but throughout the show I really felt like Bryke was MAKING IT A POINT to show that Mai was all wrong for Zuko. And she IS! She NEVER understood him throughout the entire show. She never picked up on his unhappiness, she didn't get why he was running away, she doesn't get how he's saving his country, she just didn't get anything! (Oh, of course she gets it when the show is over and Zuko is Firelord). And Katara and Zuko can have so much empathy for each other over different things (especially their mothers), and that was my favorite part about Zutara. The empathy and understanding. Zutara just made more sense to me than any other ship in the show. And Bryke making fun of it at the Comic Con? Smooth move, Ex lax.

I've accepted it, but the fangirl in me will never cease to squirm when I think about what the Zutara ending could have looked like.

Shipping aside, the thing that keeps nagging at me the most is that Aang NEVER GROWS UP. NOT EVER. I'm so mad about this that I can't say anything else about it.

And I have to put this quote in here from daveshan because it's just too darn hilarious:

Now on to the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. The fourth and final installment in the series comes out THIS SATURDAY and I will be camping. I've only waited TWO FREAKING YEARS.

And all my art got taken down. Oh well.

I'm writing a book called Fair Game, and all of you should read it! I'm going to watch Bleach now. Or Fruits Basket. I haven't decided which one I want to start first.

Oh yeah and I started DNAngel. I'm on the sixth episode or something like that and I can't get into it. Don't know why. I heard there was a Zutara situation in it, and since I didn't get my fix from Avatar, I thought I'd try it out. But I'm not seeing it. If someone could point that out or if they could tell me of ANOTHER anime that has Zutaraness in it, I would be glad to hear it.

GAH is summer over yet? I'm ready for my second year of college now...
